Tips to secure your google account, everyone is using google account for lot of purposes either it’s for using standard mail services or for advertising their on-line business or earning from google account using adsense. These are some tips to secure your account, these are not a random tips I’m using every one of these for all my google accounts to make sure they are secure and difficult to hack.
Update Your Password Often
Update your google account password often, this is simple tip but most of people won’t update it. Not only google account’s password, update all other account’s password on a regular basis. Update all your passwords once in a month or twice.
Add recovery option
Add a recovery option for your google account or any-other account which provide recovery options. Whenever you lost access to your google account, you can receive a password reset link to email or verification code to phone number. It’s good to add both recovery options phone and email and verify them. For email, just click on verification link sent by google. For Phone number, validate the verification code.
Update notification settings
Update notification settings to receive notifications for unusual activity like unexpected sign in from other location then you will a notification on email and on phone number. Unusual activity will happen because if your password is stolen or if your account is hacked. If notification settings are enabled then you can respond quickly and get back your account.
Review connected apps and sites
Review connected apps and sites, if you are logging into other websites using your google account and which you no longer using them. Just remove them from your connected apps and sites, you can get to these from security.google.com click on view all to view all the apps and site connected with your google account.
Monitor account activity closely
Monitor account activity closely, if you monitor your account activity then you will understand what is happening with your account. Is anybody accessing your account or anything else is happening with your account.
Add two step verification
Two steps authentication is more secure that one step authentication. Two-step authentication significantly increases the security of your Google account and it takes less than three minutes to setup.
You’re already familiar with what security professionals call one-factor authentication. You provide “something you know” to access your Google account: your username and password. That’s one-factor authentication.
You’re also likely familiar with two-factor authentication. You access your bank’s ATM with your ATM card and four-digit PIN. That’s two-factor authentication: “something you know” (the PIN) combined with “something you have” (the ATM card).
Two-factor authentication increases security, but decreases convenience. You can’t simply get cash out of the ATM by remembering your PIN; you also need to have your ATM card.
You can enable 2 step authentication by click on settings right after 2-step verification. Then add primary number after that add backup phone number and take print out of backup codes, so that even if you don’t have access to your mobile you can access google account with backup codes.
For my account I’ve added two backup phone number in case if I don’t have access to any. And printed backup codes, stored them in a safe place.
